12th International Summer School 2011

The INCORE Summer School provides a structured learning opportunity to analyse the dynamic and constantly changing field of conflict resolution and peacebuilding. Focusing on the latest research and concepts in peace and conflict studies and practice; participants are invited to compare, contrast and learn from different perspectives.Picture of class in progree
The School offers a unique opportunity to create links between theory, practice and policy. Special attention is given to how the experience and research of both practitioners and academics can impact upon policy makers within the field of conflict resolution, peacemaking, peacebuilding and reconciliation.

Previous participants have included USAID, European Union DG External Relations, UK Department for International Development, World Food Programme, UN Department for Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) and others.

The INCORE Summer School is recognised by UNITAR (United Nations Institute for Training and Research) Programme of Correspondence Instruction in Peacekeeping Operations, and may form part of The Certificate-of-Training In Peace Support Operations (COTIPSO) Programme. The 2011 International Summer School will run from 13th - 17th June.

This year we are offering three courses:

Alongside these modules we also run the Northern Ireland programme to provide participants with an opportunity to network with others, gaining a deeper insight into into the causes and consequences of the conflict in Northern Ireland. The Transitional Justice Institute at the University of Ulster will be running their Summer School entitled “Gender, Conflict and Transition” in the same week as the INCORE Summer School. Participants from the TJI Summer School will join INCORE Summer School participants during the Northern Ireland Programme and for social events.

Tuition Fees
Reflective of the differences in financial situations, fees for the International Summer School are broken down into two organisational categories.

  • Organisations with annual revenues in excess of £300,000 (Pounds Sterling) including:
    - Government Agencies
    - Intergovernmental Organisations
    - Nongovernmental organisations
    - Universities
    - Military


£600 (Pounds Sterling)

  • Independent individuals without financial support or organisations with annual revenue of less than £300,000 (pounds sterling)

£500 (Pounds Sterling)
  • The Final deadline for applications is 13 May 2011
  • Full payment date is 22 April 2011
  • Payment can be made by cheque, credit card or electronic bank transfer.  Credit card payments will be subject to verification.

Cancellation Policy 

Cancellations before 13 May 2011 will be subject to an administrative fee of 25%. No refunds will be issued for cancellations after this date.

If you are applying for a visa and it is declined please note the above cancellation policy will still apply. Further information about visas is available on our FAQ page.

Accommodation  
University Accommodation (standard student accommodation) is provided for six nights from Sunday 12 June to Saturday morning, 18 June 2010 at cost of £126.90 (pounds sterling). Further information about University Accommodation is available on our FAQ page.

Application Process 

The International Summer School attracts experienced participants from a wide diversity of backgrounds. The small class sizes mean that spaces are limited and are in high demand. Individuals are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Application Forms need to be completed in full to be entered into the selection process. INCORE will endeavour to respond as quickly as possible as to the success of your application. Once notified, the full receipt of the Tuition Fee is required to ensure confirmation of a place in the Summer School.
